Sweet 16s are the perfect excuse for teens and adults to cut loose. There are many ways to entertain your guests, so dust off those dancing shoes! Music is very important to any event. Whether it is background, piped in music or your daughter’s favorite local band, music gets feet tapping and livens the mood. Of course, musical taste can vary, especially between teens and adults. This is your daughter’s party so the bulk of the music should be what she prefers (within reason). Of course, some oldies but goodies should be thrown in for the adults. There aren’t any "required" dances but what would a Sweet 16 be without The Teenage Queen escorting her dad to the dance floor for "Sixteen Candles"? If you prefer, Jackson 5 has a faster, more youthful version. If dad isn’t available, mom can always dance with the birthday girl or a favorite uncle or granddad. You can also book a band or DJ to get the crowd moving. A band is on the more expensive side, while a disc jockey is more economical. The bandleader or DJ will control the flow of the party as well as lead your daughter through the candle lighting ceremony. Make sure the bandleader or DJ is comfortable with a teen audience and that they can get everybody on the dance floor. There are other forms of entertainment you can provide in addition to or in place of music. A tarot card reader can delight your guests with a glimpse into their futures. An artist can quickly sketch caricatures of your guests. Request pre-printed paper with your daughter’s Sweet 16 info so guests can carry home a memento.
